Halo: Reach Covenant Are "Terrifying"

image

With the forthcoming Halo: Reach, Bungie was given the prospect to reimagine its Covenant baddies as something really "alarming," says the back's executive producer.

Information technology's none secret to anyone who played the Halo trilogy that the Covenant ceased to be all that intimidating or scary as soon As the mindless, relentlessly infectious Flood first showed up in "343 Guilty Flicker" in the first game. Noah's flood were silent As they swarmed ended you alike a… erm, flood, while the Covenant roared and got frustrated Oregon ran away squeaking in brat when shot at (depending connected what type of enemy you were lining). And then, in Halo 2 and Halo 3, you got to play as the Covenant – or the Arbitrator, anyway.

But that's going to change in the prequel Halo: Reach. There's no Flood, no Forerunners, and No Halo installations, just the Covenant on their drive to root out mankind – and that is going to provide a springboard for Bungie to reimagine their original villains as something scary and intimidating. According to a 10-page spread along Doughnut: Reach in this month's issue of Official Xbox Magazine United Kingdom, Bungie executive producer Joseph Tung says the developer wanted to make the Covenant something that players would really be intimidated to go up against.

"We cherished to re-introduce a Sir Thomas More alarming Covenant," aforementioned Tung. "We wanted, specially in Covenant weaponry, something much more violent and intuitive."

Beyond sportsmanlike weaponry, Reach will add new Covenant races like the Skirmisher, a fast and intelligent enemy that OXM describes equally looking at similar to the birdlike Jackals. Of of course, the game will probable offer no explanation wherefore said Skirmishers are completely missing from some of the games in the serial publication that fall out chronologically after Reach (which, at past count, is all of them). The perils of making a prequel, I guessing.

It's all well and bully, and I applaud what Bungie is trying to arrange, but can you really bring i Grunts scary? At completely? I father't think sol, Tim.
